St. Thomas Aquinas High School Science Fair


Ordot, Guam – On January 8, 2010, St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic High School recognized its students who participated in the STA Science Fair. With the young mind’s natural propensity to ask questions and armed with academic training in the scientific method of inquiry, students demonstrated creativity and dedication in pursuing their objectives. They shared their work and results at the STA Science Fair on December 18, 2009. Certificates and Awards were presented in two placement categories:

 

Freshmen Class
1st Place – Chirag Bhojwani, What Is The Effect of Chlorine on Zinia?
2nd Place – Peter Leng, Air Pollution on Guam
3rd Place – Pilar Shimizu, Colorful Memories
Honorable Mention – Daniel Creppel & Katarina Delos Santos, Thermal Insulation Sandwich

Upper Classmen
1st Place – Norma Phillips, Mango vs. Papaya
2nd Place – Ryan Raguindin, Justine Denusta & Melody Kamigaki, The Boring Bug: Effects of the Sugarcane Weevil, An International Threat
3rd Place – Dara Namazi, Effect of Anhydrous Ammonia on the Dehydration of Plant and Animal Cells
Honorable Mention – Jacques Diambra-Odi, For Better or For Worse

 

The science projects probed diverse issues concerning health/lifestyle, medicine, economy/industry, and environment. Their findings and conclusions have pragmatic implications for enhancing the quality of modern life. Under the guidance of Mrs. Corinne Yahn, STA biology teacher, the students persevered and accomplished the objectives of their science project.

 

St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic High School would like to extend a sincere gratitude to all the judges from the University of Guam College of Natural and Applied Sciences (CNAS) for taking the time to review and evaluate student projects.
